‘Blade Runner 2099’ Sequel

The Blade Runner 2099 sequel series has been given a go-ahead by Amazon Prime video. It will be a limited series sequel to the famous sci-fi film franchise. Currently, Amazon Studio and Alcon Entertainment hold the rights to Blade Runner. Ridley Scott directed the 1982 classic film. It is considered one of the influential and greatest science fiction movies of all time. He will be the executive producer through his Scott Free Productions. Silka Luisa will be serving as a showrunner. Vernon Sanders is the Amazon studio head of global television.

He conveyed that Amazon is honored that they are able to present the continuation of the Blade Runner franchise. They are also confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Scott Free Productions, Alcon Entertainment, and Silka Luisa they will be able to hold the spirits of the movie’s previous releases.

Amazon had made an announcement that it would be developing Blade Runner 2099 in February. The title of the movie implies that the movie will be set 50 years after the 2017 film sequel Blade Runner 2049.

The 2017 film was directed by Denis Villeneuve. The Alcon team is also very happy to work with the Amazon team. Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson are the co-CEOs and co-founders of Alcon. They said that audience has seen Ridley’s brilliant vision for Blade Runner 40 years ago. Post same it has become one of the most influential movies of all time.

The sequel Blade Runner 2049 directed by Denis Villeneuve also had excellent reviews. Hence Alcon team is fully aware that the bar is already set very high and they would need to deliver an excellent product to live up to the standard which is already set by predecessors. Fans are also very happy with the announcement and are eagerly waiting for the announcement date.

Blade Runner 2049 was hailed by fans as well as critics but the box office returns of the movie were not good which lead many people to wonder if any further projects will be released from the franchise. Adult Swim and Crunchyroll had partnered together and released anime series on Blade Runner. The anime series was titled Blade Runner: Black Lotus and it takes place in 2032.
